4th Quarter 2011

Volatility continues to drive the raw material market just when you have expectations that the price will decline, producers are forced out with a price increase the goes against what you thought would happen. We live in such a global environment these days where a fire in Asia will create a shortage and price increase in North America.

We think this trend will continue to as the world become smaller and the investments that are being made are being done with a global view, there is no getting away from it.  In markets such as PET we see the global influence from the middle east to Asia to North America where the resin and the rollstock sells on a global basis.

We continue to forge our relationships on a global basis and we feel we still offer one of the broadest views of the market whether it be from resins, to thermoformed parts, to sheet and film to tooling. This is the basis of Rogue River which we feel sets us apart from most companies.

March 2011

The political events from around the world over the last few weeks while amazing, have sent shock waves through the oil market and we are seeing the trickle down effects into the petrochemical markets.  We are seeing extreme pressures on almost all commodities world wide and we are seeing price increases in the traditional packaging resins that are unprecedented.

Price increases continue to move through the supply chain and many are struggling with the delays or the ability to pass these increases along and we are seeing that affect many of the bottom lines. With these price increases we are seeing a lot of quote activity as customers are looking at every way possible of improving margins.

When rollstock pricing reaches this level, the importance of high quality materials becomes even more critical and paying particular attention on the cost per part versus the cost per pound becomes crucial.

Rogue River understands this better than most and we focus daily on this with our customer base in all polymers and we feel our partners are uniquely positioned to drive these savings home.

Please contact us so we can begin to drive the costs out of your process and into your pockets.

January 2011

As we begin the New Year, Rogue River would like to continue to thank our customers and supply partners for their support and for allowing us to continue our growth by growing with them.

The common theme in 2010 was volatility and 2011 is starting out pretty much the same way. Oil and over all commodities pricing continues to push higher which has an effect on all of our raw materials.

We begin another exciting year with one of our original supply partners Clear Lam Forming Films; their continued push with new product development into sustainable packaging such as PLA is truly impressive. I recommend you talk to us about the unique products and improvements that are being made each day as the changes in technology have changed what you know and think.

As many of you know, Rogue River has been the exclusive sales agent for the Pactiv OPS rollstock product in North America, now that the acquisition of Pactiv by Reynolds Food Packaging has been completed, Rogue River will begin a new era with Reynolds Food Packaging KAMA. We are excited about the new relationship and continuing to improve and provide value to our customers. RFP KAMA offers an expanded product offering which will allow us to support our customers in new applications and potentially new markets.

Finally our relationship with Vulcan Plastics has been great for our customers and for Rogue River. Vulcan has recently expanded into plug assist tooling opening up additional opportunities for our customers. Over 2010 our customers who purchased from Vulcan saw the quality, workmanship and savings that we new would be available with Vulcan. The repeat tooling orders from many of our customers  over the year, tells us that this relationship has a very bright future.

November 2010

The volatility of the resin market has once again begun to affect the rigid and flexible rollstock markets. Although the price of natural gas has been historically lower when compared to oil, the feedstock’s, the supply and demand dynamics and of course the price of oil have all combined put upward pressure on resin markets. It looks like November will see a majority these resin increases go into the rollstock market.

We at Rogue River continue to work in advance with our customers to communicate what we are seeing in regards to these pressures and we will work with our customers in advance to communicate when we begin to see the softening.

Combined with our partners, our global relationships and our core competencies we believe we see these trends from a perspective that most of our competitors do not, so please give us a call and see what we can do for you.

August 2010

Business in 2010 continues to be very good for Rogue River and we are seeing the business grow in excess of 25%. This type of success is not possible if it were not for the support from our customers and our supply partners, so thank you to those who continue to grow and partner with us.

To that end, you will see a new link on our webpage and that is to our tooling partner Vulcan Plastics Technology NA Incorporated (vulcanplastics-na.com). I can best describe our relationship with Vulcan as synergistic and our customers are realizing that the quality of the tooling is very high and the economics and lead times are very competitive. Vulcan has expanded their capacity twice in the past year as a result of the growth in the business and we are proud to be part of that growth.

On the raw material side, volatility continues to be the theme in 2010. We are seeing larger, more frequent price changes in the resin markets that make pricing in the market on both the tray and the rollstock extremely difficult. With the level of expertise Rogue River has on the feedstocks and the resin side, we can assist in understanding these drivers.

We have two former senior procurement managers of very large international packaging companies inside of Rogue River who were both responsible for the global procurement of resin at their companies. We have a unique insight to those drivers and although with this volatility we are not always right, we do offer a picture for our customers that most extrusion companies cannot.

So give us a call and let us work with you on your packaging solutions.

August 2009

We are very proud to announce that Rogue River has the privilege of offering Pactiv OPS rollstock as one of our new partners. We began this relationship May 1st and we are extremely pleased with the acceptance thus far with our customers and we are looking forward to the future with a great deal of optimism.

The volatility in the raw material has once again surfaced in 2009. A run up in the aromatic chain has put pressure on the PET and PS chain, and resin producers are seeing double digit increases in their pricing. All indication as that this may be a short term situation in 2009 but the pressure on the upside has already lasted longer than originally projected.

As converters, most of the pricing has been absorbed in the upstream chain, but I think a great deal of pressure will occur from the sheet and film producers over the next couple of months will to push some of those increases into the market.

MAY - 2009

Just back from Asia, our second trip of 2009, where we find the packaging market in a very similar situation as that of North America. There has been upward pressure on resin pricing and the demand for packaging is off from types of growth levels of 2008. In some resin markets, the price for resin is more expensive in Asia than in North America which traditionally is not the norm. We find that historically when we see these types of increases there they will start to filter into North American within a month or two. Conversely, when we see the resin market soften in Asia, the trend typically follows in North America.

Unfortunately in Asia, they do not have the outside reporting agencies that we have in North America, so the only way to stay current is to actually be on the ground and make those connections, but this is part of the value we bring to our customers.

Rogue River has made a commitment to give back the community. This practice
started in our first year of business when there was not much to give, but
we have been able to increase our contributions substantially every year
since. It is our sincere hope that as our business continues to grow we can
continue to substantially increase our charitable contributions.

Rogue River continues its 2009 support of charitable organizations.
